Federal Government College Odogbolu Class 2000 Alumni Association - The Journey so far

Since that fateful day we left FEGO, the task of staying connected to one another is one that has been sustained over time. Though it’s not been a smooth ride, it has involved a lot of sacrifice and has seen several mates step up to volunteer to achieve this goal.

Staying connected involved meeting up in silos; those within the same neighbourhood and those in the same tertiary institution. There was also the adoption of technology; the creation of a group email where we communicated and then connecting on Facebook, which was new then and allowed us connect in a more personal way than email did.

It continued in this fashion till we started planning meetups which accorded a larger and more diverse number of mates the opportunity to connect, network and have fun. This culminated in having a reunion to celebrate our 10th year anniversary on May 1, 2010. Subsequent reunions have been held and they have always been an avenue for us to network, have fun and strategise on giving back to our alma mater.

Speaking of giving back, we have initiated several projects in our alma mater aimed at ameliorating the challenges faced by current students. A team of volunteers went to the school to ascertain what the students were lacking and were in great need of, and the alumni provided. This was done on several occasions and will continue to be done as it’s a major objective of our alumni association.

All these years, the alumni had been run by volunteers and it was agreed that a proper structure should be put in place. This led to the alumni holding an annual general meeting in December 2019. It was agreed that a constitution be drafted and elections be conducted to have a proper executive council to charge the affairs of the alumni. COVID 19 happened and the exercise was put on hold till 2021 where elections were held and an executive council emerged.

Having an executive council has ushered in a new vista for the alumni association; the association has been duly registered with the corporate affairs commission of Nigeria and the executives are working on introducing several initiatives aimed at bettering the lot of its members and our beloved alma mater.
